Iran Rejects Coercion, Proposes Guarantees for Negotiations

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, arrived in Iraq on 18 October for the 52nd OIC foreign ministers’ session. He declared that Iran will not accept any form of forced diplomacy, threats, or intimidation.

The minister emphasized that Iran will protect its citizens, sovereignty, and legitimate interests by every possible means. He also highlighted Iran’s unwavering commitment to secure and uninterrupted maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before the joint attack by the United States and Israel on 28 February.

Through Qatar, Iran has presented a solid seven‑day plan to the United States, suggesting that, should required conditions be satisfied, the strait could be reopened within a week. Araghchi noted that the ultimate decision now belongs to Washington.
