Iran Objects to 'Iran Conflict' Wording in Qatar-France Talks

Tehran, October 23

Iran has pushed back against the phrase 'Iran conflict,' used during a Qatar-France discussion on global challenges, saying the description misrepresents events.

FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON Ismail Baghaei said on X that there is no such thing as an 'Iran conflict.' Sharing a post about political and diplomatic cooperation between Qatar and France, he urged that the truth not be hidden behind misleading or roundabout words.

Baghaei described the situation as an illegal, aggressive war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.

He said that failing to call an aggression by its proper name is not neutrality but an effort to escape moral responsibility. He asked how any country that cannot identify an attacker could claim the moral courage to confront injustice or contribute meaningfully to peace.

In his remarks, peace cannot be achieved by appeasing attackers, legitimising aggression, blaming the victim or giving up fundamental principles. He stressed that sustainable peace requires accepting facts, upholding justice and clearly distinguishing right from wrong.

The Qatar-France talks reviewed recent regional and international events. The two countries reaffirmed their strategic partnership and expressed their commitment to meeting regional and global challenges collectively.

Issues on the agenda included Gulf security, the 'Iran conflict,' measures to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, peace efforts in the Middle East and Africa, and the situations in Syria and Lebanon.

Iran's objection was lodged over the use of the 'Iran conflict' term in those discussions.
