UKMTO’s latest assessment highlights that activities by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps continue to pose a major hazard for commercial navigation in the Hormuz Strait. The IRGC has been conducting drone patrols, radio contact attempts with passing ships, and warning of possible underwater explosive devices.
Since 6 July, 18 projectile attacks recorded by UKMTO have largely targeted the southern Omani channel of the strait, with 16 incidents occurring in that sector alone. These threats have forced ship owners to reconsider routes and increase protective measures.
