Iran Accuses US of Violating International Law Over Air Travel Ban
Iran's diplomatic corps has accused the United States of breaching the United Nations Charter with its latest sanctions that curb air traffic and trade. The ministry asserted that these steps not only contravene international law but also infringe upon fundamental human rights.
The statement underscored that Iran‑Iraq ties are anchored in centuries‑old religious, cultural and economic relationships. It pointed out that the flight restrictions affect hundreds of thousands of passengers annually, including students, patients, traders and pilgrims, creating a humanitarian dilemma.
While affirming respect for Iraq's sovereignty, Tehran called on Baghdad to take appropriate measures against the U.S. pressure campaign. The Iranian side maintained that removing the bans would be in the best interest of both nations, restoring normal aviation links and supporting regional stability.
