Investigation Continues as Fire Engulfs 'Putri Yasmine' Ferry

Authorities are probing the cause of the fire that devastated the passenger ferry Putri Yasmine on Wednesday morning in the Lombok Strait. The vessel, which regularly shuttles between Lembar and Padangbai, caught flame at approximately 04:15 while heading toward Lembar.

The SAR chief, Muhammad Hariadi, confirmed that 106 passengers were rescued with the assistance of naval ships, KMP Port Link vessels, and local fishermen, while one passenger lost their life. The rescue effort involved multiple craft, including the KN 220 Arjun SAR boat, a rescue inflatable, and a buoyancy boat, as well as an air‑borne helicopter for surveillance.

Investigators are examining possible engine malfunction or electrical faults, and have urged any witnesses to come forward. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety standards for Indonesia's inter‑island ferry services.
