Infrastructure Damage and Power Outages Amid Nepal's Flood Crisis
KATHMANDU, Sept 29 – The recent monsoon onslaught devastated Nepal’s transport and power networks. Floods and landslides compromised highways and main roads at 147 locations, of which 125 have been cleared and reopened.
In western districts including Beni‑Jomsom, Palpa, Baglung and Nawalparasi, landslides caused road collapses and damaged bridge approaches along the Kaligandaki corridor, halting traffic for several days.
The National Transmission System recorded a loss of about 1,013.2 megawatts across the Kaligandaki, Marshyangdi and Seti‑Madi river corridors, leaving thousands without electricity.
Earlier, in August, severe floods had damaged more than a dozen small‑hydro projects on the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather.
