Indonesia Awards Modi Highest Civil Honour and Signs Brahmos Deal

Jakarta honoured Modi with its top civilian distinction, a gesture that coincided with a defence cooperation agreement. Indonesia approved the purchase of India’s Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles, becoming the third Asian nation after the Philippines and Vietnam to acquire the system.

The deal also covered the sale of Astra air‑to‑air missiles, further cementing defence ties. Indonesian officials highlighted the Brahmos’ proven combat record as a key factor in the procurement decision, reflecting trust in Indian technology amid shifting regional security dynamics.

Beyond weaponry, the two governments signed a broader strategic framework that includes joint exercises, technology sharing and capacity building for maritime surveillance.
