India’s Upper House Deputy Chair Engages Tanzanian Speaker on Capacity Building

In Arusha, Tanzania, the Deputy Chair of India’s Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, sat down with Musha Ajan Zungu, the Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly, following the opening of the 153rd Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU) assembly. The bilateral conversation focused on bolstering capacity‑building mechanisms for parliamentarians and fostering skill‑development programs that address the challenges of the 21st century.

Harivansh lauded the Tanzanian hosts for their flawless execution of the IPU event and extended congratulations to Speaker Zungu for the successful proceedings. The Indian team, which also includes Lok Sabha MPs such as Anurag Thakur and Aparajita Sarangi, will engage in a series of workshops covering democracy, human rights, climate action, and the regulation of emerging technologies.

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat highlighted that the IPU gathering is a critical arena for lawmakers worldwide to exchange ideas on governance, inclusivity and community empowerment. India’s active participation underscores its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for advancing global peace and sustainable development.
