Indian foreign ministry sends life‑saving drugs to Bolivia ahead of AI Impact Summit

The Ministry of External Affairs of India used its X platform on Sunday to reveal that eight metric tonnes of life‑saving and essential medicines have been sent to Bolivia to bolster its public‑health system.

The statement described the gesture as a concrete expression of India’s solidarity with a Global South ally and reaffirmed New Delhi’s readiness to advance cooperation through shared development.

The initiative follows the February visit of Bolivian Vice President Edmund Lara Montero to New Delhi, where he met Indian Vice President C P Radhakrishnan during the AI Impact Summit 2026. The two officials exchanged views on expanding cooperation in solar power, critical minerals, digital technologies, higher education and health.

A subsequent X post by the Vice President’s office confirmed that the meeting, held at the Vice President’s House, reflected the “continually strengthening bilateral relationship” and identified further avenues for collaboration, including multilateral engagements.

India’s assistance to Bolivia also includes a donation of 300,000 doses of Measles‑Rubella vaccine delivered in July of the previous year, together with other medical supplies. Ambassador Rohit Vadhavana officially handed over the current shipment at El Alto Airport in La Paz, with Bolivian officials, including the foreign minister, health‑sports minister and deputy minister, in attendance.
