Indian Embassy Marks 80 Years of Freedom with Bridge Illumination and Cultural Events in Israel

To commemorate India’s 80th Independence Day, the Indian Embassy in Israel organized a series of events in Jerusalem, the centerpiece being the illumination of the famous Cord’s Bridge in saffron, white and green. The embassy posted images of the illuminated bridge, describing it as a “strong symbol of friendship, shared values and a future full of possibilities.”

The celebration featured the hoisting of the Indian national flag by Ambassador JP Singh, a reading of the President’s Independence Day message, and the singing of the national anthem. For the first time, “Vande Mataram” was performed, honoring its 150‑year anniversary.

Cultural activities included a “Know India” quiz, a photography contest titled “India Through My Lens,” and a vibrant dance performance by students of the Indian Cultural Centre, showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity. Awards were presented to the winners of the contests, underscoring the warm and strengthening ties between India and Israel.
