Indian Diaspora in Canada Awaits Modi’s Return After 11 Years
Canada’s Indian community, numbering roughly three million according to the 2021 census, is buzzing with excitement over the prospect of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s December visit. High Commissioner Dinesh K. Patnaik noted that messages and requests pour in daily from Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, students, entrepreneurs, scholars and professionals eager to meet the leader.
Patnaik acknowledged that while it will be impossible for every individual to see the Prime Minister, the administration will strive to create opportunities for maximum engagement. The anticipated visit follows a series of high‑level contacts, including defence and trade ministerial meetings, educational delegations and recent security dialogue sessions.
The enthusiasm underscores the deep cultural and economic links that bind the two nations. A successful visit is expected to amplify cultural exchanges, business collaborations and community outreach, further integrating the Indian diaspora into Canada’s social fabric.
