A day after landing in Kolkata, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in New Delhi for substantive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The closed-door meeting reviewed ongoing progress in defense, strategic technology, investment flows, and energy cooperation, while also touching on regional stability from West Asia to the Indo-Pacific. Rubio delivered a personal invitation from President Trump for Modi to visit Washington and outlined America’s perspective on pressing international issues. Modi responded by stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes, reaffirming India’s consistent support for peaceful conflict resolution. In remarks released by the Prime Minister’s Office, both sides expressed satisfaction with the trajectory of the relationship and committed to sustaining momentum through regular exchanges. Rubio’s visit is seen as a signal that the Trump administration intends to maintain the high level of engagement established under previous leadership. Ambassador Sergio Gore later tweeted that the discussions were productive and that India continues to hold a central place in U.S. strategic calculations.
