In a display of strengthening bilateral relations, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal attended a lavish welcome reception hosted by newly appointed US Ambassador Sergio Gor in New Delhi. The gathering also saw the presence of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, signaling robust diplomatic engagement.
Goyal captured the essence of the night on X, posting images with Gor and stating, ‘It was a pleasure attending Sergio Gor’s welcome reception at the US Embassy in India. I am confident that the India-US trade agreement will propel our partnership to new heights.’
The guest list was impressive, featuring friends of India, diplomats, corporate honchos, and US collaborators. More than 75 envoys mingled with the Indian ministers, fostering an environment ripe for dialogue and deal-making.
Ambassador Gor shared his enthusiasm online: ‘What a night! Hosted a wonderful reception with beloved Indian friends, diplomats, business leaders, and American partners at my residence. In the context of our new trade framework and intensifying strategic relations, true connections form in these intimate settings—building trust, exchanging ideas, and envisioning a joint future. Excited for India-US possibilities!’
He specifically acknowledged Goyal, Jaishankar, and the 75+ ambassadors for their attendance. Speaking at the event, Gor emphasized the White House’s keen interest in India under the Trump administration. He attributed the breakthrough interim trade pact to the exemplary friendship between PM Modi and President Trump.
Reflecting on his short tenure, Gor noted, ‘I’ve been in India for a bit more than a month, and we’re already making progress. The White House has its eyes on India; President Trump does too. It’s their friendship with PM Modi that made this trade deal possible.’
This high-level interaction arrives amid concerted efforts to expand economic ties. From defense pacts to tech collaborations, India and the US are aligning on key fronts. The reception not only celebrated Gor’s arrival but also reaffirmed a trajectory of elevated partnership, promising economic growth and geopolitical stability for both powers.
