India-UAE LPG Supply Shift Highlights Growing Energy Cooperation

A separate development underscored the deepening energy link between the two countries. After the closure of the Hormuz Strait last week, the UAE surged ahead to become India’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Data from maritime intelligence firm Cape Lambert shows UAE’s share of Indian LPG imports jumped to 39% in September, up from 13% in August, overtaking the United States. The Gulf nation shipped 547,000 tonnes of LPG in September, a 182% rise over the previous month, while U.S. shipments fell sharply. India now sources about 60% of its LPG demand from abroad, historically dominated by Gulf producers.
