India‑UAE foreign ministers discuss partnership and regional stability
Abu Dhabi, 15 October – During an official state visit, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met with the United Arab Emirates’ Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The conversation covered the deepening India‑UAE strategic partnership and a spectrum of global concerns.
Jaishankar shared on X that the meeting was warm and fruitful, reflecting a shared commitment to address bilateral and international issues under the umbrella of a comprehensive strategic alliance.
The Indian delegation was greeted by UAE Minister Reem Al Hashimi at Abu Dhabi airport. Earlier in the week, both ministers had taken part in the Raisina Dialogue’s Middle‑East session, titled “The World Ahead: Power, Purpose and Possibility,” where they explored ways to broaden cooperation in sectors such as energy, security, and innovation, and stressed the value of multilateral collaboration.
According to Jaishankar’s post, the global order is evolving quickly, shaped by longstanding trends and recent developments. He said nations are responding to these shifts by seeking new allies and alternatives, and that modern partnerships must evolve beyond traditional thinking to incorporate deeper strategic insight.
He called for reforms in the multilateral system, suggesting that compact yet robust groups of like‑minded states could help drive progress. The past decade’s India‑UAE engagement, he noted, exemplifies how both countries have recalibrated their relationship to align with a changing world.
The visit occurs amid heightened tensions across the region, including ongoing hostilities in Iran and the intensifying conflict involving Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia, which have rendered the Gulf’s security environment fragile.
In a separate incident, the Indian Commercial Embassy in Dubai reported that 22 Indian crew members aboard the oil tanker MT JEM Number 2 were rescued unharmed near Ras Al‑Khaimah. The embassy confirmed that the crew is safe and is working closely with UAE authorities.
Meanwhile, Indian pilot Captain Smita Machhar, who played a crucial role in protecting passengers on Flydubai flight FD 1073 after a co‑pilot attack, is receiving medical care in an Abu Dhabi hospital and is reported to be recovering.
