India Stalls Indus Water Agreement Until Pakistan Halts Cross‑Border Terrorism

Following a series of remarks by Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar at the ASEAN forum, New Delhi reaffirmed that the Indus Water Treaty will remain on pause. The Ministry of External Affairs indicated that Pakistan’s continued endorsement of terrorist activities across the border, exemplified by the Pahalgam tragedy, makes any cooperation impossible.

India’s foreign ministry spokesperson warned that Islamabad’s attempts to spread false claims on an international platform are unacceptable. He underscored that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are permanently part of India, and that Pakistan lacks any jurisdiction to comment on these territories.

The Indian government called on Pakistan to dismantle its terror infrastructure and to address its internal crises rather than blaming neighbours. Only when Pakistan proves a trustworthy and sustainable halt to its support for terrorism will the water pact be reconsidered.

The statement concluded with a strong denunciation of the misinformation campaign, labeling it as an effort to shift focus from Islamabad’s own destabilising actions.
