India-Russia Naval Cooperation Discussed During Kerala Visit
The Russian Navy’s six‑member team, headed by Captain First Rank Sergei V. Saitov, completed a detailed inspection of India’s Southern Naval Command and the Indian Naval Academy in Kerala. The delegation’s agenda focused on understanding the Indian Navy’s training system, infrastructure layout and the range of facilities available to cadets and personnel.
Official posts on X highlighted that the dialogue centered on expanding maritime collaboration, improving joint operational capabilities, and strengthening institutional bonds. Both sides described the engagement as a testament to the enduring naval partnership that has linked India and Russia for decades.
These discussions arrived at a pivotal moment as both governments actively work to deepen long‑standing defence ties. The recent meeting between Foreign Ministers S. Jaishankar and Sergei Lavrov in New York reaffirmed a "special and privileged" strategic partnership, with commitments to coordinate closely in international platforms such as the United Nations, G20 and BRICS.
The visit also coincided with Indian Army Chief General Dhairaj Seth’s three‑day official tour of Russia, where he met senior Russian defence officials, including Deputy Defence Minister General Yunus‑Bek Yevkurov and Army Commander‑in‑Chief Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev. Their conversations emphasized joint training exchanges, sharing of operational expertise, and broadening the defence cooperation agenda.
