India-Poland Ties Gain Momentum Amid Global Uncertainty

Amid a turbulent global environment, India and Poland are deepening their partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held talks in New Delhi on Thursday, agreeing to expand cooperation in several strategic domains.

The bilateral meeting covered defence, space, nuclear energy, trade and major global issues. The discussions built on the Strategic Partnership elevated during Modi's 2024 visit to Poland.

Modi said the relationship has gained significant pace over the last two years. He described the bond as rooted in shared humanity and sensitivity rather than diplomacy alone.

Modi also recalled a significant chapter of history. During the Second World War, the royal houses of Jamnagar and Kolhapur sheltered thousands of Polish children and families in India, creating a legacy of goodwill that continues to shape ties today.

He remarked that the world is passing through a period of uncertainty and change. Despite these challenges, he said, India and Poland are emerging as important centres of growth, technology and innovation.

Modi congratulated Tusk on Poland's economy reaching the historic benchmark of one trillion dollars in GDP. He also noted that India posted a robust 7.8 per cent growth rate in the last quarter, adding that India's expanding economic strength is creating new openings for collaboration.

The Prime Minister highlighted the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement as a catalyst for bilateral economic engagement. Once it takes effect, he said, Polish markets will open further to Indian exporters in machinery, chemicals, plastics and engineering products.

On strategic cooperation, both sides agreed to strengthen work in defence, space and nuclear energy. India has invited Polish companies to join co-development and co-production in these fields.

Modi noted that partnerships in advanced technologies and strategic sectors can deliver lasting benefits to both countries.

The leaders further discussed regional and global developments, with both nations affirming their belief in democratic values and the rule of law.

Modi stressed that global governance institutions must be reformed to become more effective and robust. He reiterated that India will keep backing every meaningful peace effort, including those addressing the Ukraine crisis and the conflict in West Asia.
