India‑New Zealand Ties Grow as Minister Lauds Modi’s 25‑Year Vision

New Delhi, September 18 – Todd McLarty, New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on reaching 25 years of public service, noting a palpable shift in India’s economic fortunes and the well‑being of its people.

In a detailed briefing, McLarty highlighted Modi’s dedication to expanding higher education, noting a remarkable rise in the number of Indian universities relative to global peers. He also commended the scale of infrastructure projects that have catalysed growth across multiple sectors.

The minister referenced Modi’s 2035 goal of increasing farmer and producer incomes by 50 percent, stating, "We are eager to contribute our expertise to this mission." He underscored New Zealand’s readiness to share advanced farming technologies, aiming to replicate the country’s agricultural success within India.

McLarty reminded listeners that New Zealand and India have previously signed several bilateral accords, and a new trade agreement has just been concluded, solidifying commercial links. He stressed the importance of energy security, especially renewable sources, and suggested numerous collaborative opportunities in this arena.

"Our defence collaboration is also progressing, with both nations’ forces prepared to work together constructively," McLarty affirmed.

According to the minister, the freshly‑signed trade pact is merely the first step. The New Zealand government intends to deepen ties by boosting investments, focusing on technology transfer, and enhancing cooperation in renewable energy and security. He hinted that, after the forthcoming New Zealand elections, a state visit to India could be scheduled before the end of the year.
