Strategic Partnership Pact Signed Between India, New Zealand

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon confirmed that India and New Zealand will sign a strategic partnership pact designed to broaden the scope of bilateral interaction. The agreement builds on the existing free‑trade agreement, aiming for a deeper, more comprehensive framework.

Luxon emphasized that the new partnership will address not only trade tariffs—where 57 percent of duties on New Zealand goods exported to India will be eliminated from day one—but also joint initiatives in defence, research, and digital infrastructure.

Both leaders exchanged several memoranda of understanding covering sectors such as higher education exchange programmes, renewable energy projects, and maritime cooperation, signalling a multi‑dimensional approach to the relationship.
