India-Malaysia Strategic Partnership Strengthened Ahead of 18th BRICS Summit

The meeting between Prime Ministers Modi and Anwar Ibrahim underscored the growing strategic ties between the two nations. With the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September 12‑13 in New Delhi, both sides highlighted Malaysia’s role as a partner country.

Key areas of discussion included defence procurement, joint research in semiconductors, digital infrastructure, tourism and educational exchanges. The leaders also exchanged views on ASEAN‑India relations, noting Malaysia’s consistent backing of Delhi’s regional initiatives.

The foreign ministry’s statement confirmed that both governments will continue to pursue a broad‑based partnership, expanding cooperation into energy, smart cities and people‑to‑people contacts.
