India-Liechtenstein Ties Get Push as Prince Alois Visits New Delhi

New Delhi, October 26: Prince Alois of Liechtenstein arrived in New Delhi on Monday, beginning an official visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Minister of State Jayant Sinha greeted him at the airport.

The visit seeks to give India-Liechtenstein relations a stronger footing.

The External Affairs Ministry said on social media platform X that the prince's trip would inject new energy into bilateral ties. It noted that his New Delhi arrival, after a visit to Vadodara, reflects the growing cooperation between the two nations.

Welcoming the prince, Minister of State Jayant Sinha expressed his interest in building friendly relations and boosting mutual cooperation, recalling their earlier encounter in Davos.

Prince Alois first touched down in Mumbai on Sunday. Princess Sophia and a high-level delegation, comprising senior officials and industry leaders, are travelling with him.

In Mumbai, the ministry said India and Liechtenstein are bound by shared values and mutual respect. This is the prince's second visit to India in 2026. He previously came in February to attend the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, and he had also visited India in 2010 and 2018.

The programme on Tuesday begins with a formal welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The prince will then lay a wreath at Rajghat in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Later that day, Prime Minister Modi and the prince will hold bilateral talks at Hyderabad House. Their discussion is expected to cover trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, and wider people-to-people engagement, along with an exchange of views on regional and global issues.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary will also meet the prince on Tuesday. After that, he will call on President Droupadi Murmu, who is scheduled to host a state banquet in his honour.

The ministry said the visit will help consolidate the growing cooperation between India and Liechtenstein, particularly after the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement came into effect in 2025. It said the visit will open the door for both countries to pursue partnerships in new areas and strengthen their friendly relations.
