India‑Japan Leaders Sign MoUs on Security and Technology

Tokyo, July 13 – Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met Japan’s Defence Minister Shinjirō Kōizumi to discuss the evolving security landscape and potential defence industry partnerships. The minister announced on X that Singh’s visit was the first of its kind, building on Prime Minister Kishida’s recent engagement with India.

Singh also visited the Self‑Defence Forces Memorial Stone, laying flowers in respect of the fallen Japanese service members. The Indian Ministry of Defence described the act as a reflection of the strong India‑Japan strategic partnership anchored in common values and a joint commitment to regional stability.

The meeting set the stage for the 16th India‑Japan Summit in Hyderabad, where Prime Ministers Modi and Kishida deliberated on trade, investment, economic security, clean energy, emerging technologies, defence cooperation and cultural exchanges. The summit produced three pivotal documents: a joint declaration on economic security, a collaborative statement on artificial intelligence, and a joint communiqué on energy resilience.
