India‑France Strategic Partnership Discussed in Pre‑UN Talks

In a pre‑UN assembly series of meetings, External Affairs Minister S. Jayshankar sat down with French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot to assess the health of the India‑France Special Global Strategic Partnership. The two officials highlighted that regular in‑person and virtual interactions are vital for the partnership’s continued vigor.

Key topics included the ongoing war in Ukraine, tensions in the Gulf, and a shared vision for reforming the United Nations Security Council. Both sides reaffirmed commitments to joint defence projects, renewable‑energy ventures and coordinated diplomatic outreach.

After concluding the France dialogue, Jayshankar proceeded to a separate engagement with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Roberto Cúri. The agenda broadened to include cooperation in pharmaceuticals, energy trade, skilled‑personnel exchange, and collaborative projects on multilateral platforms such as the UN. The meetings reflect New Delhi’s twin track policy of consolidating established alliances while expanding cooperation with emerging partners in the Global South.
