India's Diplomatic Mission Arranges Repatriation of Citizen Dead in Ukrainian Conflict

The Indian diplomatic mission in Kyiv is actively facilitating the return of an Indian national who lost his life during a recent Russian attack on Ukraine.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian forces have killed twelve civilians in the past five days, with the Indian victim among them. The deadliest incident involved a drone strike on a railway depot in Kyiv, which also claimed seven local lives. Other regions such as Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipro have also been targeted by missiles and unmanned aerial systems.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy said it is in touch with the bereaved family and is coordinating with Ukrainian authorities and a transportation firm to ensure the swift repatriation of the body. The mission conveyed heartfelt condolences and promised continuous assistance throughout the process.

The loss was reported just after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, urged both sides to end the “endless war” and move toward lasting peace. Modi highlighted that the war delays humanity’s progress while each step toward peace offers hope to the world.

Zelensky accused Moscow of deliberately launching attacks that maximise civilian casualties and appealed to the international community for additional air‑defence systems, stating that the level of Ukrainian protection directly influences the scale of Russian aggression.
