India-Cyprus Ties Elevated to Strategic Partnership After Historic Visit

A four-day state visit by Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides has taken India-Cyprus relations to a new strategic level. The leader left New Delhi on Saturday after productive discussions that produced six agreements and a shared commitment to expand connectivity. Road Transport and Highways Minister Ajay Tamta saw off the President at the airport, while External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that the visit had injected “necessary strength” into bilateral ties. The two sides agreed to set up a counter-terrorism working group, expand cooperation in research and digital policy, and promote student and youth exchanges. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Christodoulides devoted significant time to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. Both expressed confidence that the project could redefine trade, enhance regional stability, and create new prosperity corridors linking South Asia with Europe through the Eastern Mediterranean. India’s top diplomat for the region, Sibi George, confirmed that a dedicated bilateral connectivity dialogue has been initiated, underscoring connectivity as a cornerstone of future India-EU engagement via Cyprus.
