India and Brunei Strategise on Energy Partnerships and Tourism Collaboration

New Delhi, 14 Oct – The third India‑Brunei Joint Trade Committee meeting placed particular emphasis on energy collaboration and tourism links, alongside broader trade objectives.

Joint Secretary Amit Verma (Ministry of Commerce, India) and Permanent Secretary Faiza Ahmad Arifin (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Brunei) led the talks, which were attended by officials from pertinent ministries, departments and industry bodies.

Discussions identified institutional mechanisms to ease business‑to‑business exchanges and to resolve market‑access challenges. The two governments agreed to streamline Indian agricultural and animal‑product exports to support Brunei’s food‑security goals.

Energy cooperation was discussed in depth, covering conventional fuels and emerging renewable avenues, with the aim of sustaining Brunei’s industrial growth. The health‑care and pharmaceutical sectors were also earmarked for enhanced regulatory coordination and joint procurement.

Tourism was highlighted as a catalyst for deeper people‑to‑people interaction. Both sides pledged to promote joint participation in trade fairs, exhibitions and tourism initiatives, viewing these as avenues to broaden commercial exposure.

A structured trade‑promotion programme and reciprocal business delegations were proposed to uncover investment possibilities in manufacturing, infrastructure and services.

The parties reaffirmed their dedication to ongoing dialogue among nodal agencies and working groups to track follow‑up actions. The next JTC meeting will be hosted by Brunei Darussalam.
