India‑Bangladesh Energy Ties Strengthened with Additional Diesel Flow

Bangladesh has urged India to increase diesel shipments via the cross‑border pipeline to mitigate its worsening electricity and gas crises. Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, after meeting Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Tripathi, told reporters that the country imports diesel through the pipeline and is seeking a higher supply to stabilize its energy grid.

The dialogue formed part of a larger agenda on power and energy cooperation between the two nations. Mahmud pointed out that regular engagement with foreign diplomats, especially from neighbouring India, is essential for addressing mutual concerns.

The Indian mission posted that both sides reiterated their shared dedication to expanding collaboration that enhances energy security, drives sustainable development, and improves the well‑being of citizens in both countries.

According to reports, the Friendship Pipeline began delivering about 5,000 tonnes of diesel from India to Bangladesh in early April, reinforcing Dhaka’s fuel security amid regional maritime instability.
