IIT Madras Zanzibar Initiative Highlights Tech and Training Partnership

The IIT Madras Zanzibar Initiative continues to serve as a flagship program linking Indian technical expertise with Zanzibar's development goals. Launched several years ago, the project provides advanced ICT training, joint research opportunities and capacity‑building workshops for local engineers and students.

During the recent meeting, President Mwinyi praised the initiative's role in fostering a skilled workforce and enabling technology‑driven solutions in sectors such as renewable energy, water management and digital services. He highlighted the importance of sustained investment in human capital to ensure long‑term economic resilience.

Indian officials underscored plans to expand scholarship slots, increase joint laboratory facilities and introduce new curricula that align with Zanzibar's growth strategy. The collaboration exemplifies how academia can be a bridge for deeper diplomatic and economic ties.
