IDF Says Residents Near Drone Launch Sites Will Be Evacuated

Jerusalem, August 23 – In a joint statement after a senior security briefing, Israel’s defence establishment warned that any civilian population residing in zones used to launch drones, balloons or kites from Gaza will be relocated. The measure is intended to allow the Israel Defence Forces to conduct pinpointed operations against Hamas operatives without endangering innocent lives.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Galant, together with Lieutenant General Israel Zaher and the National Security Council chief, underscored that the evacuation will be carried out swiftly if aerial attacks persist.

The announcement reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to preventing a repeat of the security situation that existed before the October 7, 2023 attacks. Netanyahu asserted that no militant faction in Gaza will be permitted to threaten Israeli communities again.

Separately, Israel has alerted the United States to Turkey’s plans to install a radar and air‑defence array at the Abu al‑Duhur airfield in north‑west Syria, a development that could reshape the regional power balance. Acting on intelligence, the IDF launched an air strike on the Syrian base on Tuesday after a diplomatic warning to Damascus went unanswered.
