Hydropower Workers Among Hundreds Still Unaccounted for in Nepal Disaster

Among the 4,216 people still missing after Nepal’s catastrophic floods, roughly 900 are believed to be employees of ongoing hydropower projects. The list also includes foreign tourists, security forces, and civil servants.

Officials caution that the missing‑person figure may fluctuate as rescue teams verify reports and gain access to isolated villages cut off by landslides, washed‑out roads and collapsed bridges. So far, 11,913 individuals have been accounted for as safe, while about 3,950 displaced residents are residing in provisional camps set up in Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa and the capital.

Road and bridge destruction has forced relief agencies to rely on helicopters and makeshift routes to deliver food, medicine and essential supplies to stranded communities.
