Humanitarian Workers Urged to Protect Aid Convoys Amid Sudan Conflict

The World Food Programme issued a stark warning after an airstrike on Sunday destroyed two of its food‑delivery trucks bound for Kadugli, South Kordofan, South Sudan. The loss of over 50 metric tonnes of food represents a month's worth of nutrition for nearly 5,800 people facing severe food insecurity. WFP stressed that the trucks were clearly marked with its insignia, a fact that should have prevented the targeting. The agency called on every faction involved in the Sudanese conflict to respect international humanitarian law, safeguard civilians, and guarantee the security of humanitarian staff and supplies. Since the beginning of the year, eight aerial attacks have struck WFP facilities, undermining relief operations across the region. The statement underscored that any assault on humanitarian missions is intolerable and must be stopped without delay.
