UN Calls for Immediate Humanitarian Aid as Lebanon Faces Health Risks

The United Nations has warned that the ongoing hostilities in southern Lebanon are creating a public‑health crisis. Damage to water infrastructure, combined with continuous Israeli air strikes and artillery, has led to the loss of clean water for more than 700,000 residents.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has documented large‑scale violations of international humanitarian law, describing some acts as potential war crimes. Since March 2, the conflict has caused over 4,300 civilian deaths and injured more than 12,200 people, including health workers, journalists and media staff.

The UN stresses that humanitarian aid must be scaled up without delay. Rebuilding pumps, repairing boreholes, and ensuring safe water supply are essential to protect the health of the population and to support the return of displaced families.
