Humanitarian Aid: India Supplies Tents to Afghan Ministry for Returnees

New Delhi, 13 July – In a latest act of regional solidarity, India has transferred a batch of family tents to Afghanistan's Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation. The tents are earmarked for Afghan citizens who are being repatriated from Pakistan.

The provision aims to give families a safe space to live while they rebuild their lives in Afghanistan, where many lack adequate shelter after the journey back.

The move follows a surge in returnees after Pakistan accelerated the expulsion of undocumented Afghans. According to recent data, more than 4,000 individuals were forced to leave within a single 24‑hour period, and daily departures have frequently exceeded 10,000.

UNHCR has warned that compulsory returns risk the wellbeing of vulnerable populations, especially women and girls, and has called for voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation processes.

By supplying the tents, India hopes to mitigate the immediate housing crisis faced by returning families and to demonstrate its continued humanitarian commitment to Afghanistan.
