Human Rights Groups Warn of Grave Violations after Pakistan’s Security Sweep

Human‑rights observers have issued an urgent warning after Pakistani security forces conducted a large‑scale sweep in the occupied Kashmir area, resulting in the deaths of at least 40 civilians.

The United Kashmir Peoples National Party, which monitors the situation on the ground, reported that the operation began on July 27 and involved the use of live ammunition against demonstrators who were exercising their right to peaceful assembly. Dozens more were injured, and many individuals were reportedly taken into custody without legal justification.

The organization noted that the death toll since June 5 exceeds 100, with a significant number of disappearances that remain unaccounted for. Such actions, according to the group, breach fundamental international human‑rights standards and could be prosecuted under global criminal law.

International bodies, including the United Nations and the European Union, have been appealed to for an immediate deployment of observers, protection of civilians, and a transparent investigation into alleged war crimes.

Local leaders echoed the sentiment, urging the global community not to remain silent while innocent lives are lost and fundamental freedoms are eroded.
