Human Rights Group Warns Official Data Understates Gender Violence in Bangladesh

A prominent human‑rights organization cautioned that the official numbers on violence against women likely underestimate the real magnitude of the problem. The group noted that the statistics were derived mainly from reports published in a limited selection of newspapers.

"If data from every media outlet were included, the picture could be far more alarming," the organization said. It highlighted that many cases go unreported, especially in rural areas where victims often lack access to legal support.

The statement calls for comprehensive data collection, stricter enforcement of existing laws, and a coordinated national response to protect women and children.
