The Yemen‑based Houthi movement launched a coordinated military operation against the Saudi‑owned tankers named "Encelia" and "Laila" on Wednesday. Using ballistic and cruise missiles together with drones, the rebels claimed the vessels had breached the group’s newly declared sea‑blockade. According to Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree, both ships caught fire after the attack. The United States responded by reiterating that any further aggression will be met with direct military action against Iran, which it described as the Houthis’ sponsor.
