Honour Killing Alleged in Sindh After Couple Shot on Bus

A married couple was allegedly gunned down inside a passenger coach on a national highway in Sukkur district, Sindh, in what police are treating as an honour killing. The couple had wed by personal choice, and the case has drawn attention to the risks faced by such couples in parts of Pakistan.

Local media reported the shooting on Friday. The couple was headed to Karachi when unidentified assailants fired at them inside the coach near Wig Gate and then tried to run away from the spot.

Police from Baiji Sharif arrived after receiving the alert and arrested two men, Abdul Malik Samejo and Abdul Hanan Samejo. A repeater shotgun was recovered from them.

The victims have been identified as Sidra Samejo and Didar Shaikh. Their bodies were sent to a nearby hospital for postmortem. Police said the investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances and reasons behind the murders.

According to a document dated September 28, 2026, Sidra had mentioned her previous marriage in an affidavit. She said she had first married Abdul Hanan, who allegedly mistreated her and divorced her through triple talaq in 2024.

In the affidavit, Sidra said relatives began pressuring her to marry another man after the divorce. She stated that in April 2026 she married Didar Ali by her own choice. She had also warned that she feared for her life from her ex-husband and other family members.

Earlier, a similar case was reported in Karachi. On September 21, 18-year-old Zarka Bibi, a newlywed, was allegedly killed by her brother in Orangi Town. Mominabad police SHO Shahbaz Yousuf said she had married of her own will and had lived with her husband for about three weeks before her family persuaded her to return home for a formal ceremony.

Zarka reportedly returned to her parents' home on Sunday night, where her brother allegedly killed her before fleeing. Her body was sent to hospital for legal procedures. Police have named the suspect as Safeer Khan and are carrying out raids to arrest him.
