High‑Level Indian Delegation Honors Deceased Iranian Supreme Leader

A senior Indian mission arrived in Tehran on July 4 to render homage to the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the departed head of Iran’s theocratic hierarchy.

Foreign Minister Pabitra Margareta, together with Bihar Governor (Retd.) Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hassanain, stood at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla prayer hall, presented wreaths and voiced condolences on behalf of the Indian government and its citizens.

The Supreme Leader’s demise on 28 February, following a coordinated strike blamed on the United States and Israel, marked a turning point for Iran’s 46‑year rule. His son, Mohammad Mojtaba Khamenei, assumed the supreme leadership role in March.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the delegation’s participation reflects the deep civilisational bond between India and Iran and will strengthen people‑to‑people contact as well as political and economic engagement.

Funeral events are slated for July 4‑5 at the Mosalla hall, with burial activities on July 6. A secondary procession will take place in Kom on July 7, and the final interment will be held on July 9 at the revered Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.

Earlier in March, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Iran’s diplomatic mission in New Delhi, signed the condolence book and conveyed India’s sorrow to the Iranian authorities.
