Hasina Says She Will Face Arrest If Needed to Serve Bangladesh
During a press briefing streamed online from London, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina affirmed her plan to travel back home in December, despite ongoing criminal cases.
When probed about her certainty, Hasina answered, “I am absolutely resolved. All my travel paperwork has been sealed, and I am mapping out the itinerary. I will reveal the exact details at the appropriate time.”
She made it clear that she is ready to accept any legal repercussions, including possible arrest or imprisonment. “My commitment to the nation outweighs personal risk,” she said.
Hasina’s statements echo earlier remarks made in August at a video conference hosted by the South Asian Foreign Correspondents Club. Alongside her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and other senior Awami League figures, she reiterated that she cannot stay silent while her fellow citizens endure hardship.
The ex‑premier also demanded that the authorities rescind the ban on the Awami League, arguing that it undermines democratic participation.
