Harivansh Leads Indian Team to IPU Summit Focusing on Inclusion and Good Governance

New Delhi, October 3 – Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh headed a 10‑member Indian parliamentary delegation that departed for Arusha, Tanzania, on Saturday. The team will attend the Inter‑Parliamentary Union’s 153rd General Assembly from 5‑9 October, a forum that gathers parliamentarians worldwide under the banner "Promoting good governance through inclusion, trust and opportunities for all, while empowering communities."

Among the Indian participants are Lok Sabha MPs Anurag Thakur, Aparajita Sarangi, Sanjay Jaiswal, Kamaljit Sahu, Lata Vankhede, Bijuli Kalita Medhi and N.K. Premchandran, as well as Rajya Sabha MP Sasmita Patra. The delegation is set to join a series of panel discussions, workshops and bilateral meetings covering democracy, human rights, peace and security, sustainable development, women’s empowerment, science and technology, counter‑terrorism, health and mental health.

Additional agenda items include critical mineral governance, artificial intelligence, the future of work, maritime security, climate change mitigation, and the conservation of mountain and marine ecosystems. Harivansh will represent India in the Governing Council, the general discussion, an emergency‑topic session and a private dialogue with contenders for the IPU presidency.

The move reinforces India’s enduring engagement with the IPU, showcases its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy, and underlines its role in shaping multilateral discussions on global peace, development and community resilience.
