Gun Control Debate Rekindled After Deadly Nonthaburi School Attack

The mass shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School has prompted renewed calls for tighter gun regulations in Thailand. The assailant used a firearm registered to his grandfather, raising questions about how the weapon was accessed by a minor.

More than 30 individuals were injured in the attack, including teachers, staff, and students. Fourteen victims remain hospitalized, with seven in serious condition. Among the dead are school personnel who were caught in the crossfire.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan‑o‑cha announced plans to strengthen existing weapons legislation. Human‑rights groups and education advocates are urging the government to improve security protocols in schools to prevent future tragedies.
