German Minister Meets US Official, Calls for Nuclear Solution Alongside Hormuz Security

Johann Wadefuhl’s meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marko Rubio in Washington underscored Germany’s endorsement of the United States‑Iran memorandum of understanding. Wadefuhl described the accord as a “significant diplomatic opportunity” in a fragile regional climate.

He stressed that the primary priority is to ensure a permanent arrangement that keeps the Strait of Hormuz open and free from disruptions. The German foreign minister also warned that any lasting peace must contain a robust framework for resolving Iran’s nuclear program, guaranteeing that it never again threatens global safety.

The discussion comes as Tehran and Paris continue their phone dialogue, seeking to align their positions on the MOU’s implementation and the broader goal of stabilising the Persian Gulf’s maritime routes.
