Gandhi’s Principles Presented as Blueprint for Peace in Growing Global Divide
At a briefing in New York, UN Secretary‑General António Guterres described Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy as a practical blueprint for confronting the rising global divide.
He pointed to the widening chasm caused by economic disparity, the breach of international law and the disregard for the United Nations Charter as catalysts of conflict. According to Guterres, these conditions undermine the very fabric of peaceful coexistence.
“Instead of mirroring the cruelty of systemic oppression, Gandhi showed that the most powerful weapon against injustice is dialogue and non‑violence,” he said. The leader emphasized that building bridges of understanding can deliver dignity and sustainable transformation.
Guterres urged the international community to harness genuine diplomatic engagement to dissolve fragmentation, alleviate suffering and create a lasting peace grounded in non‑violent action.
