French police use tear gas as students block schools

Police forces across several French regions resorted to tear‑gas after students blocked school gates and clashed with law enforcement. In Lille, protestors ignited garbage containers and threw projectiles at officers, leading to the use of CS gas. Similar incidents were reported in the western city of Bordeaux and the eastern towns of Rennes and Nantes. The Interior Ministry said that 164 arrests were made on Monday alone, with nearly 180 schools already affected before the latest wave of unrest on Tuesday.
