Former President Moon Supports Lee’s Push for Party and National Unity

During a luncheon at the Cheong‑wa‑dae on July 1, former President Moon Jae‑in backed President Lee Jae‑myung’s appeal for unity within the ruling Democratic Party. The two leaders addressed the growing intra‑party rivalry that could undermine the party’s effectiveness ahead of the August national convention.

Moon described party cohesion as the first step toward achieving national unity, urging progressive forces to consolidate their efforts. He affirmed that President Lee is the only one capable of delivering a broad progressive alliance and fostering national solidarity.

Lee reiterated that a strong, inclusive party is indispensable for South Korea’s future, emphasizing the need for "structural diversity" to represent all societal sectors. He also highlighted the importance of expanding the party’s scope beyond traditional bases.
