The national weather service has warned that Champi could be classified as a super‑typhoon on Tuesday and may cross into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) under the local name Rosal. Although the centre is still positioned well east of the Philippines, a north‑westward drift could bring the storm close to the country’s eastern seaboard. Analysts predict that the system will continue over the Philippine Sea, veering north‑west toward Taiwan, which reduces the likelihood of a direct landfall in the Philippines. Nevertheless, the agency cautions that the storm’s outer bands may affect the eastern provinces, especially Northern Luzon, with heavy rainfall and strong winds by the end of next week.
