Power Projects Hit Hard as Flood Swamps Rasuwa Region

The flash flood that hit Nepal’s northern border on August 26 has left a trail of destruction for the country’s power sector. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, fifteen hydro‑electric projects in the Rasuwa catchment area were affected, ten of which are already operational while five are still under construction.

Damaged facilities include the Rasuwagadi and Chilime power stations, the Trishuli‑3A and Trishuli‑3B schemes, and an extensive 220 kV transmission hub. The Trishuli and Devi Ghat hydro‑plants also reported breaches in their water intake systems, leading to a temporary suspension of electricity generation.

The authority emphasized that restoration crews are working round the clock to re‑establish power supply to households and businesses. In the meantime, consumers have been asked to conserve electricity and avoid unnecessary travel on the Earth Highway and riverside roads, which remain hazardous due to ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
