Flood Aftermath in Bidur: Thousands Dead, Hundreds Missing, Aid Arrives from India

The catastrophic flood that hit Nepal on August 26 has left Bidur municipality reeling. Mayor Rajan Shrestha thanked India for the immediate relief and described the country as a "true friend" that has consistently defended Nepali interests. While the exact death toll remains uncertain, thousands of bodies have been recovered and the number of fatalities is expected to be far higher. Over five hundred residents are still unaccounted for. Ten out of thirteen wards were heavily impacted, affecting roughly five thousand citizens. Relief teams are delivering food, medicine and shelter, and displaced families are being housed in temporary holding centres. Shrestha appealed for continued financial assistance from India to support rescue, rehabilitation and long‑term reconstruction, and expressed hope for sustained aid from Nuwakot and Rasuwa as well.
