Floating sea fence deployed at Ceuta to curb illegal crossings

Madrid, August 2 – A floating sea fence has been installed off Ceuta's coastline near the Tarajal shoreline to block unauthorized maritime migration. The barrier became fully functional on Sunday and is expected to reduce the number of migrants attempting the risky passage.

The latest official figures put the death count at 72, while the municipal morgue lists 88 bodies awaiting identification, some of which were retrieved more than two weeks after the influx began.

Law enforcement and armed forces maintained a heightened presence throughout the city, detaining undocumented migrants encountered on the streets and moving them to police facilities for processing before initiating return protocols.

The deployment has intensified calls for a unified European response to the growing migration pressure on the continent's borders. An emergency video conference involving interior ministers from 22 EU states and Spain's prime minister is planned for August 4 to assess the crisis and agree on joint actions.
